1,000 new jobs created by new Polish meat processing plant

Animex Foods, a Polish pork and poultry producer, plans to build a new meat processing plant in Żelazków, with the capacity to generate over 1,000 new jobs.

According to Global Meat News, Poland’s state-run Agricultural Real Estate Agency (ANR) is currently negotiating a land deal for the new plant. As much as 400,000 square metres of land could be acquired by Animex. If the negotiations are successful, Animex plans to begin construction work shortly.

Sylwiusz Jakubowski, Mayor of Żelazków, told a local daily newspaper Głos Wielkopolski: “We have ongoing talks with this firm [Animex]. The company is interested in buying a plot of 40 hectares to build a production facility, which is expected to hire 1,000 employees.”

No figures related to the amount of planned investment in Żelazków were disclosed by the Polish meat processor.

Animex Foods is looking at three sites in the local area as potential places to build its new plant. Currently, the company runs nine other production facilities around the country, with sites in Morliny, Szczecin, Starachowice, Ełk, Suwałki, Dębica, Opole and two plants in Iława.

The firm produces a wide range of processed pork and poultry meat products, including sausages, frankfurters, chicken wings, hams, traditional Polish kabanos smoked pork sausage alongside ready-to-eat, smoked and marinated offerings.

Besides the Polish domestic market, Animex Foods exports to the EU, United States, Canada, Panama, China, Russia, Japan, Georgia, Armenia and a number of countries in Central Africa.

Meat exports account for 25% to 30% of Animex Foods’ total revenues, which amount to €910 million annually.
